‘Sites of Memory’

January 30 - March 13 2026

Pushup Gallery is pleased to present Sites of Memory, a group exhibition curated by Libby Richey. Featuring 5 artists currently working in New York and Philadelphia, Sites of Memory confronts time, perception, identity, and collective memory.

Sites of Memory draws upon French historian Pierre Nora’s ‘Lieu de memoire,’  which described the memory site as a place, item, event, or cause that acts as a “container” of memory. These spaces crystallize in the collective consciousness. Lieu de memoire can be understood as a point of struggle between memory and history. Our personal biases and perceptions warp memory, and can be calcified into our collective history if we aren’t critical of them.

Sites of Memory brings together work that explores the artist’s  relationships with personal and communal memory. Through explorations in the body, personal histories, data and artifact collection, and astute observations on the material relics of daily life, these artists explore how communal memory is formed and stored, and what elements of it speak to our most interior selves.
